So here we are! We`ve officially begun our journey. After several hours of travel, we finally arrived at the Nîmes Centre station. Madame Ribeiro, the coordinator of our exchange, kindly welcomed us and let us stay at her house until our first day at school. We had a lovely dinner consisting of many dishes, such as "Pâté d'aubergine à l'ail", "Brandade" and other local specialties.
On Monday, March 4th, we saw the Lycée Philippe Lamour for the first time, and to be fair, the area of the school grounds left us astonished. The school itself consists of many separate buildings, which are all connected by lovely olive alleys (what's more, we were told that the students harvest the olives twice a year to make oil from them). It almost feels like a small, picturesque town with its rhythm and atmosphere. Other than that, there's an amphitheatre, fitness centre, greenhouse, restaurant, cafeteria, and a huge library open every day until the evening. To make the "vie scolaire" a bit easier for those 1300 students, there's a special building dedicated to scheduling their time, solving potential problems regarding studies, and helping them in everyday situations. However, the groups of students aren't fully fixed (as we are mostly used to), so it feels a bit anonymous to be around different people all the time. On the other hand, it's a great practice for entering university and attending lectures with hundreds of students.
So after our little "tour du lycée," we were at last given the "l'emploi du temps" and were ready to find our first class of the day, which happened to be..... history!
If you're wondering how we did, keep your eyes peeled :-)
À très bientôt!
